It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but let’s face it: there are certain aesthetic standards that make some people more equal than others, so to speak. Admit it or not, many of us have thought about having something enhanced on our body or face to make us look – well, a bit more beautiful or perfect. And while there are now many ways to boost our natural attributes, like rhinoplasty for instance, there have been so many horror stories about silicone implants getting dislodged or causing adverse reactions (like an infection) after a number of years.

Dr. Levi John Lansangan

“The problem with silicone is that it does not ‘age’ with you,” says Dr. Levi John Lansangan, a certified facial plastic surgeon specializing in advanced reconstructive rhinoplasty and facial aesthetic procedures. The body treats silicone like a foreign object so after five to 10 years, the nose job becomes very noticeable, he explains.

Dr. Lansangan, who obtained his medical degree from the University of Sto. Tomas, saw how far behind we are in terms of technology for cosmetic surgery and enhancement when he took up his fellowship in plastic surgery in South Korea, where he stayed for two years. “Here we still use silicone implants which have been found to be problematic but in Korea, they were already making use of Gore-Tex as material for implants.”

Armed with that knowledge, Dr. Lansangan proceeded to establish Shimmian Aesthetic Center in 2005, pioneering the use of Gore-Tex technology here in the country. “Gore-Tex is an inert material which means it is not prone to infection. It is porous so it allows your tissues to grow within and through the implant, thus eliminating material rejection, eventual nasal contractions and other complications. Unlike silicone, Gore-Tex ages with you and becomes ‘part’ of you,” he explains.

Shimmian (pronounced shi-mi-en) means “beauty that comes from the heart” – and this is what Dr. Lansangan has been helping women achieve in the 15 years that he has been mastering the art and science of crafting the ideal nasal profile for Asians. Just very recently, he deiced to embark on a new journey by partnering with Lourd Ramos for his new venture in Makati.

Located at the ground floor of Cedar Executive Building I along Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road), the new Dr. Shimmian Aesthetic Center is nestled right inside the Creations by Lourd Ramos salon – which makes it ideal because prospective clients who want the services of a surgical center but are very discreet about it can just step inside the beauty center to obtain the services offered by Dr. Shimmian. What’s more, clients are assured that the good doctor will be the one performing the procedure on each and every patient.

Lourd Ramos has the same market of clientele as mine, and the reputation he has established over the years and his credibility assures me that our partnership will work because we both put a great stock on credibility. Our clients are after one thing – beauty. We are paying close attention to what women have been searching for – and we offer a one-stop-shop for aesthetics and salon services,” Dr. Lansangan concludes.
